British Airways is one of the worlds biggest and most prestigous airlines. The pinnacle career step for a commercial pilot is to join an airline with the stature of BA.
BAs large route network and varying fleet offers pilots the opportunities and experiences which smaller airlines will find hard to match.
BA has a large fleet ranging from small aircraft including the A319 to heavy weights such as the 777 and 747. This variety allows BA pilots to progress from the smaller to larger types as they gain more experience.
Most smaller airlines are restricited in terms of their fleet. Normally pilots would have to move from airline to airline in order to fly different aircraft types. The problem with moving is that a pilot would slide to the bottom of the airline's seniority ladder.
A BA pilot has the choice to change between aircraft types and maintain their seniority ranking. BA is the only UK airline which can provide such flexibility.

A route network consisting of more than 200 destinations ensures as a BA pilot you are less likely to suffer from repetitive flying. Whether you are a short-haul or long-haul pilot you can be assured of visiting more airports than with other UK airlines.
The pinnacle for many pilots is to fly long-haul with a large international airline. BA has the largest fleet of 747s in service and their long haul route network reflects this. As a 747 pilot with BA you will span all continents from America, Asia, Africa and Australia. BA's huge long-haul network can certainly amplify the glamarous side of being an airline pilot.
Reputation, Safety and QualityBA has promoted itself as the 'Worlds Fauvorite Airline' and all BA pilots will be expected to reflect this in their performance and interaction with passengers.
Competition to become a BA pilot is immense. To be successful you will have to prove you can promote BA's core values and excellent safety record. You must be a top team-player with strong communication and management skills. A strong-personality is important as you must be able to display integrity to the highest level.
BA will provide you extensive training throughout your career as well as type-conversion training required to join BA's fleet. When joining BA you can expect to remain on your first type for at least four years.
As a large airline BA also provides its pilots with the opportunities to move into training roles whilst still performing flying duties. Future off flight-deck management opportunities are also available throughout the company for those who wish to puruse senior roles.
British Airways RecruitmentBA is currently only open to direct-entry pilots. The airline used to run a pilot sponsorship scheme for new pilots, however this scheme was closed soon after 9/11.
As a direct entry pilot you will already have at least a frozen ATPL. Your chances do increase with the more hours in your log book.
As a BA pilot you will enjoy all of the benefits one comes to expect from a larger international carrier. These include the company's profit share schemes, bonuses, generous holiday entitlements and of course reduced air fares for you and your family.
