The B Badge is the next step after the A Badge and consists if completing a 5 minute soaring flight solo at an altitude above a previous low point after launch.
Soaring is at the heart of what gliding is about and it enables pilots to stay in the air for long periods and to use this ability to cover long distances.
B Badge training aims to build and develop a pilots soaring abilities. The pilot will learn to effectively catch and utilise air thermals to maintain and increase their height. The pilot will then be able to comfortably maintain their altidude for the required 5 minutes.
Because the B Badge prepares pilots for flying for much longer periods then they must be able to demonstrate a greater understaning of airspace rules than what is required for the A Badge.
Once the pilot has successfully completed their 5 minutes solo soaring flight, then they will be able to apply for their B Badge via the BGA.
